Tin House by Henning Stummel Architects

The 216m² home of architect Henning Stummel had to contend with overlooking on all sides of its tightly constrained site on a former breaker’s yard in Shepherd’s Bush.

The response was a low and inward-looking courtyard surrounded by a cluster of single-storey pavilions.

Each of these bright orange, tin-clad pavilions contains a single room that slopes on all four sides to a steeply pitched roof with an angled skylight flooding the space below with natural light.

Internally the orange colour of the exterior cladding is expressed on some of the internal walls, the kitchen island, the study’s long desk, and on the doors.
