The competition was for a for a sailing marina with facilities to include a harbour master’s control room/office, private clubrooms, a public restaurant, wash and laundry facilities.
The site was on a peninsular with good all round vision. Vice versa – the proposed edifice would be seen from see at almost any angle. Consequently we developed the idea of a building that would be abstract in appearance and change in colour and appearance as you moved around the peninsular.
The structure would be made up of concrete walls and slabs painted in bright colours. The sculptural quality and colour combinations would be clearly visible through the fully glazed envelope, an enormous light sculpture to be appreciated at this vast scale.
